Ryan Chavez, J.D.

Ryan has over 20 years of experience supporting public and private businesses using his financial, legal and business background.

Most recently, Ryan was the Chief Financial Officer at Asterias Biotherapeutics after initially joining Asterias as its Executive Vice President of Finance and General Counsel. Prior to joining Asterias, Ryan was Vice President and General Counsel of Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals’ Autoimmune and Rare Diseases Business, a position he held following Mallinckrodt’s merger with Questcor Pharmaceuticals. Before joining Mallinckrodt, Ryan served as Associate General Counsel and other various roles for Questcor. Ryan has also supported clients in different corporate transactions during his time at the law firms of Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth and Rutan & Tucker, LLP. Ryan started his career with the General Electric Co. where he was part of the company’s Financial Management Program and Corporate Audit Staff.

Ryan currently teaches at Chapman University’s Fowler School of Law and he earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Chapman’s Law School and his B.A., with honors and distinction, from Stanford University.
